Citi Field is the brand new home of the New York Mets of Major League Baseball (MLB), competing in the National League. The stadium was opened in 2009, which is the same season the Mets began to play in it.
Citi Field features unprecedented sightlines, amenities, and comfort for Mets fans, sports fans and visitors to the New York metropolitan area. The open-air ballpark connects the Mets' National League heritage to the future and to the City through a number of unique design elements. Citi Field has natural grass and capacity for approximately 45,000 fans. A contoured seating configuration brings spectators closer to the field on all levels providing optimal sightlines for a more intimate and entertaining experience throughout the park.
Shea Stadium, the old home of the Mets was demolished after the end of the 2008 season.
